Liverpool have reportedly had a golden chance to land £35million-rated Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi as doubts continue to surround the future of five Anfield forwards.
Jurgen Klopp currently has an array of attacking talent to call on, especially after the Reds secured the signing of exciting Colombian winger Luis Diaz from FC Porto during the January transfer window.
However, the trio of first-choice strikers Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all set to enter the final year of their contracts on Merseyside. Add to that, the fact that Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino are also set to move on means the Reds could go from a position of strength to one in flux.
This has led to speculation that Jurgen Klopp will look to completely revamp his attacking options over the next 12 months.
Diaz and Diogo Jota are already on board. However, it looks like Klopp has also Adeyemi on his radar.
The 20-year-old looked certain to join Borussia Dortmund. But reports now indicate that negotiations between Salzburg and the Bundesliga outfit have stalled.
Nachrichten of the Ruhr claims Dortmund are refusing to pay Salzburg’s £35million asking price for the Germany international. To that end, there is a threat that the deal could now be cancelled.
If so, the Reds could be ready to strike, having watched Adeyemi since he was 16.
Adeyemi excels in big games
The striker is widely regarded as one of the best young talents in European football. And it is in the Champions League that he has excelled this season.
Adeyemi has scored five goals in seven European appearances for Salzburg and won four penalties for his side.
He’s renowned for his work-rate and his ability to press from the front, which is perfect for a Klopp team.
Adeyemi can also play in all three positions on the frontline, with his former coach Marc Unterberger clearly a big fan.
He said Finish for the first time“He’s a player who can win games. It doesn’t matter against whom and it doesn’t matter when. He’s always focused to the maximum when it comes to points.
At £35million, Adeyemi could represent exceptional value, although much now depends on what’s going on with the likes of Salah and Mane.
